Tablescapes, an arrangement of items used to decorate tables and other surfaces, can be displayed on any space and in any room. They can decorate dining room tables, dressers, sinks, bathrooms and porches. They may be designed to fit any space and are often decorations for special events like galas and parties. A common example of a tablescape is a store display window that at its base features leaves and branches with some gourds showcasing a fall clothing line. The purpose is to create beauty and to tell a story of a season or event. Tablescapes may be most interesting when they are personalized and reflect something about the event or the season, as well as about the hosts and their guests. Unlike floral designers, who usually arrange bouquets inside containers, tablescape artists have no boundaries and may use an entire space up to 20 feet or more. Although tablescape artists may use containers, they exceed those boundaries and extend their canvas to an entire table and beyond. As well as designing with flowers, tablescape artists style with grasses, limbs, wild plants and decorations. While there are some similarities between floral designing and tablescaping, the differences are enormous.
